| | Driving Under the Influence of YogaJanuary 20, 2009 - Phyllis Sigal I walked out into the cold from an hour and a half of yoga the other night, and I was shocked. I had forgotten it was frigid outside. I forget a lot while safe inside my yoga sanctuary. One night after yoga class, a honking horn startled me as I made my relaxed way home ... A loud, rude horn! Apparently I also forgot I should go a little faster down the lane. I was incensed, for a moment — as incensed as one can be after 90 minutes of yoga. I guess I was more upset that the impatient driver brought me back to real life, out of my comfortable fog. Maybe I should've thanked that driver ... Driving under the influence of yoga perhaps can be debilitating. But, nonetheless, a healthy sanctuary is a good thing, especially in this time of economic woes, job insecurity, political unrest throughout the world, etc. ... Whether it's yoga or meditation, a good book or a set of headphones with great music blocking out the world, a spiritual place or a walk in the snow ... we could all use a sanctuary of some sort right now — even if just for an hour or so.
