2008 Football Preview

Huck Hopes to Flip Cadets’ Luck

August 22, 2008

For first-year coach Eric Huck, the opportunity to coach at his alma mater is something he has looked forward to since he was a child. ‘‘It’s kind of a dream come true,’’ Huck said. ‘‘I grew up here watching my dad coach, so it is a great opportunity to come back.’’ Huck, however, will have his hands full as he inherits a team that went 1-9 the last two seasons under Sonny Bidwell. ‘‘Our expectations are just to go out there and try to get better,’’ he said. ‘‘We haven’t had a whole lot of success in the past, but we think we can change that this season.’’ Taking over the Cadets’ offense at quarterback will be junior Tanner Robinson, who is moving to the position after playing fullback last season. ‘‘He has been doing a great job for us in practice, and we think he can be a really good player,’’ Huck said. Joining him in the backfield will be sophomore Matthew Klinger and junior Justin Ellis, who split time with Robinson last season at fullback. Taking over for Robinson and Ellis as the lead blocker will be junior David Rabourn. While the Cadets will mainly focus on their ground game, Robinson will have many targets available when he goes to the air. Junior classmates Jarid Bates and Cody Stalnaker will provide Robinson with targets in passing situations. The offensive line looks to be a strong point for the Cadets, hoping to pave the way for the run-based offense. Anchoring the offense will be junior center Greg Heldman.
