W.Va. school board seeks public input on 4th sports class
WEST UNION, W.Va. (AP) — The state Board of Education will let the public comment on a plan that would add a fourth championship classification for football and boys and girls basketball.
The board made the decision Thursday during a meeting in Doddridge County.
The proposal was initiated by Paden City High School Principal Warren Grace and approved last month by the Secondary School Activities Commission’s Board of Control. It would divide the state’s 121 high schools based on enrollment figures for grades 9, 10 and 11.
The state board will vote on the proposal this summer after the public comment period. The board rejected a plan two years ago to add a fourth class for football only.
