POSTED: April 13, 2008

MOUNDSVILLE — In just 30 minutes Saturday, 28 Marshall County residents were selected to serve as delegates to the state Democratic Convention to be held June 13-14 in Charleston.

The delegates were selected Saturday during the county Democratic Convention which was attended by some 40 members of the party.

Marshall County Democratic Executive Committee Treasurer Terry McDiffitt served as chairman during Saturday’s short convention. McDiffitt explained that the county was entitled to 34 delegates to the state convention, but only 28 people indicated an interest.

The Marshall County delegates include:

Magisterial District 1 — Joseph Canestraro, Thomas Johnson, Chris Kessler, Sherry Jones, Rosanna Latacz, Stephanie Latacz, Steve Latacz, Jason “Jake” Padlow, Susan Reilly, Howard Wade and Marie Waterman.

Magisterial District 2 — Jane Klug, Carol Mitchell, Jan Pest, Phil Pest and Winnie Reilly.

Magisterial District 3 — Linda Bixby, Fred Gardner, Jeremiah Gardner, Gretchen Kessler, Jeffrey Kessler, Betty Key, Terry McDiffitt, Carol Potts, Lawrence Potts, June Reid, James Ryan and Kathy Stalnaker.

The meeting opened with the invocation led by Democratic Executive Chairman Thomas Johnson, and the Pledge of Allegiance by Barbara Scott, a member of both the county and state executive committees.

Rules of the convention were adopted and county executive committee member Susan Reilly was elected as convention secretary.

In addition to selecting delegates to the convention, those in attendance gave their approval to the State Democratic Platform, an eight-page document.

Current county/state Democratic officeholders in attendance were introduced, along with Democratic candidates on the May 13 ballot.

Following the convention, the county Democratic Executive Committee met to make final plans for the annual Steak Fry to be held at 6 p.m. April 26 at the Limestone Community Center, and to discuss the upcoming primary election.
