Wheeling Physician Lasure Recognized

WHEELING — U.S. Attorney Sharon L. Potter has recognized a Wheeling physician for his work with crime victims.

Potter presented a plaque to Dr. Rex Lasure for his dedication to and support of victims of crime in conjunction with National Crimes Victims’ Rights Week at the monthly meeting of the Crimes Against Children Task Force.

“Dr. Lasure has been an integral member of the task force, volunteering his medical expertise. He is a fair but supportive advocate for victims of crime, and his dedication is unparalleled,’’ Potter said.

Lasure received his undergraduate degree and his medical degree from West Virginia University, where he completed his residency in family practice.

He is practicing with MedExpress Urgent Care.

Prior to his current position, Lasure worked as an emergency physician at Wheeling Hospital from 1990 to 2006. His medical career also includes employment as an emergency room physician at Reynolds Memorial Hospital in Glen Dale from July 1983 to November 1984, an ER physician at Wheeling Hospital from November 1984 to August 1988, and a family practice in Glen Dale from August 1988 to December 1989.

Lasure holds numerous medical certifications and membership in professional organizations and associations. He also is active in the Wheeling community, including being an advisory board member with the Family Violence Prevention Program at the YWCA and a member of the Crimes Against Children Task Force since its inception.

The Crimes Against Children Task Force consists of the Brooke—Hancock—Ohio County Victims Assistance Program; Department of Health and Human Resources; Belmont, Brooke, Hancock, Marshall, Ohio, Tyler and Wetzel counties; the FBI; Harmony House; the Marshall County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office; Moundsville Police Department; the Ohio County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office; Ohio County Schools; New Martinsville Police Department; Sexual Assault Help Center; sheriff’s departments in Brooke, Hancock, Marshall, Ohio and Wetzel counties; St. John’s Home for Children; Triadelphia Police Department; the U.S. Attorney’s Office; West Virginia State Police; Wheeling Hospital; Youth Services Systems; YWCA Court Appointed Special Advocates Program; and the YWCA Family Violence Prevention Program.
