Across West Virginia, a total of 31,806 registered voters had cast ballots as of the end of the day Monday. By the end of the day Tuesday, however, that number had increased to 36,161, according to figures provided by the West Virginia Secretary of State’s Office.
In Ohio County, 148 additional voters came out Tuesday, bringing the early vote total there to 1,264.
Marshall County officials reported that 70 residents cast early ballots there Tuesday, and that 771 ballots had been cast so far.
In Wetzel County, 626 have voted early so far, and 77 came out on Tuesday.
There were 20 who voted in Tyler County Tuesday, and a total of 253 have cast ballots there thus far.
The Brooke County Clerk’s Office reported that 50 voted there Tuesday, and that 395 early votes have been received in the election.
In Hancock County, 49 voted on Tuesday, and 433 early ballots have been cast.
Statewide figures show that three times as many Democrats have voted in the election as have Republicans. As of the end of the day Monday, 22,681 Democrats had cast ballots so far, compared to 7,167 Republicans. There were also 11 Mountain Party members, 1,551 with no party affiliation, 330 Independents and 66 others who had voted early in the state.
Early voting continues through Friday during regular office hours at local courthouses. In addition, all courthouse polling locations will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, the last day to vote early in West Virginia.
Primary Election Day is Tuesday, May 13.
