McCain-Palin Plan Is Better for Coal
By the News-RegisterCandidates for vice president often offer excellent windows into what their running mates, those seeking the presidency, really think. Comments by Gov. Sarah Palin and Sen. Joseph Biden have been especially illuminating in regard to the coal industry.
Palin, who is Sen. John McCain's running mate, visited Belmont County on Sunday. Members of the large crowd who attended her rally made it clear where they stand on coal.
"Mine, baby, mine," they chanted.
Palin agreed with them. "We have more coal in this country than there is oil in Saudi Arabia," she noted. "The question is, why aren't we using it?"
In speeches and, sometimes, in conversations with individuals, Palin has made it clear that she understands the need to use more coal in the United States. McCain himself favors development of "clean coal" technology. Clearly, he, too, recognizes the need to make as much use of coal as possible. The alternative, continuing reliance on foreign oil, simply is not realistic.
Sen. Barack Obama, running against McCain, also claims to be a proponent of clean coal technology. But during a September campaign stop elsewhere in Ohio, his running mate, Biden, made it crystal clear that he does not like coal.
"We're not supporting clean coal," Biden told a woman. "No coal plants here in America," he added.
Since then, Biden has attempted to backtrack. During his appearance this week in Belmont County, he attempted to portray himself and Obama as friends of coal.
And during the televised debate between Palin and himself, Biden claimed his earlier statement, "We're not supporting clean coal," was taken out of context.
No, it was not. Too many East Ohio and Northern Panhandle residents have watched and listened to the video tape of Biden's September statement in Ohio. What he said was very, very clear - in any context. To suggest otherwise is to insult the intelligence of voters.
We believe the Obama claim to support clean coal technology is more window-dressing than reality. He recognizes that, should he be elected president, ultra-liberals in Congress would reject anything more than token funding for coal.
Thanks in part to Biden, voters who understand how badly the United States needs to increase its reliance on coal have a clear-cut choice: Either McCain/Palin, where progress is quite possible - or Obama/Biden, where it is no more than a throwaway campaign promise.

Love this comment:"The biggest daily point gain in Dow Jones history was 936 points on October 13th, 2008 which was the first one day double digit gain since 1933. Could a Barack Obama victory in the U.S. presidential election on November 4th lead to the first 1000 point daily gain in Dow history? I wouldn't bet on it but I also wouldn't be surprised either. One buys stocks based largely on confidence. That confidence may come from a variety of reasons but confidence in government leadership is high on the list. Polls show by a large majority Americans, and foreign investors in American stocks, have much more confidence in Obama's handling of the economy than McCain.

formerohiovalleyresident - first of all, the burning of cars did not happen in Paris, but in the Banlieu - the suburbs. There was 1 incident of burning a car in the city. France, as a member of the EU, allows for free movement of people from the 27 Member States. Therefore, EU citizens can come & go between members just like a US citizen in America. The EU & ECB runs Europe's fiscal & monetary policy, not France. But more importantly - I'm not sure what your point is?

Tmoore-Any Dems been arrested due to Acorn? SACRAMENTO -- The owner of a firm that the California Republican Party hired to register tens of thousands of voters this year was arrested in Ontario late last night on suspicion of voter registration fraud. State and local investigators allege that Mark Jacoby fraudulently registered himself to vote at a childhood California address where he no longer lives so he would appear to meet the legal requirement that signature gatherers be eligible to vote in California. Jacoby's arrest by state investigators and the Ontario Police Department comes after dozens of voters said they were duped into registering as Republicans by his firm, Young Political Majors, or YPM. The voters said YPM tricked them by saying they were signing a petition to toughen penalties against child molesters. The firm was paid $7 to $12 for every Californian it registered as a member of the GOP.

Mountaineer, are you silly enough to think that taxing the rich means more to health care, infrastructure, or any other useful purpose? I got some oceanfront property in Nevada for you! Since 1964 Great Society of LBJ, the government has given enough money to entitlement programs to BUY every single piece of commercial real estate in this entire country! Is poverty “cured”? During the 8 years of the “marvelous Clinton economy” did the Ohio Valley boom? No, it bombed because the Clinton economy was “dot****’ers” putting money in their pocket while EPA passed more regulations to shut down real business. The Clean Energy Act of 2005 gave 9 BILLION dollars to clean coal. Did the Valley get any of it and start to boom? Nobama “Swift boated” himself with Joe the Plumber; Gallup had Kerry by 11 points over Bush at this time in ’04. You can cry in your beer on Nov. 5!

formerohvalleyresident, healthcare in the US is great...if you can afford it. problem is, too many people can't. it should be a right!!! and your other question...What will collecting more taxes from “rich people” do for YOU personally and/or residents of the Ohio valley? Absolutely nothing! We have been fighting two wars, healthcare is a mess, and infrastructure is falling a part, schools need built and money put toward education. So what would the rich paying more in taxes do for me? The election is over...President Obama wiped out his most honorable veteran and most dishonorable presidential opponent, John McCain. Gallup today is 52% Obama / 42% McCain. After 8 years of Republican rule...it will be good to see Democrats in charge...and hopefully they have learned from mistakes of the past. But today is what it is, and tomorrow will be what it will be. President Obama and Vice President Biden....get used to it America...embrace it.

The subject is coal. Here are the facts. Al Gore wants not one additioanl coal fired plant built in the US. Harry Reid has clearly stated his position " coal will make you sick" and has done all in his power to stop a coal fired plant in Ely, Nevada, his home state. This plant is desperately needed. Joe Biden stated his true feelings in Western Ohio 10 days ago, Let them build coal plants in China but not here, It pollutes. Nancy Pelosi clearly has supported every piece of legisation to delay and block coal fired power plants. Now, you can take the political commintary of Obama but I will guarantee you the day after the election , coal will be personana non grata in the Democrat agenda. There carbon strategy excludes coal. Mark my words !!!!!!!

WINFIELD, W.Va. -- Three Putnam County voters say electronic voting machines changed their votes from Democrats to Republicans when they cast early ballots last week. This is the second West Virginia county where voters have reported this problem. Last week, three voters in Jackson County told The Charleston Gazette their electronic vote for "Barack Obama" kept flipping to "John McCain". In both counties, Republicans are responsible for overseeing elections.

Jeffw, you gotta stop reading Daily Koz and breath some real air. Your candidate for President ADMITS doing coke, weed and other RECREATIONAL drugs in the book he WROTE. Cindy Mc is not running for president and had a pain problem, got addicted to PAIN KILLERS, not recreational drugs like Nobama. McCain has a LOBBYIST on his staff who once represented Fannie Mae; Obama’s two former “Economic ADVISORS” were Franklin Raines and Jim Johnson, the two CEOS who ran Mae and Mac into the ground and CAUSED this whole credit crisis. G Gordon Liddy, the talk show host syndicated on over 50 stations? The youngest FBI bureau chief? The FBI agent who personally captured 2 of the 10 Most Wanted List criminals? Sounds like a patriot to me. The Environmentalist wackos and their Dem coconspirators have brought the coal and steel industry to a halt in the Ohio Valley, yet you lap dogs are too stupid to see the truth. Maybe you deserve the misery you vote for?

OH Henry, lets see. France unemployment rate was “down” to 7.2% from 8.0% a year ago (US up to 6.1% from 5.9%). If this is worst economy since the Great Depression, what does that say about France? On a good night in Paris, thugs and protestors burn 50 cars. Can you imagine that happening in NY or LA? They would declare martial law until it stopped. French economy is 5 th largest in the world; STATE of California = 8 th largest in the world if it were a country. Euro down 30 cents on the US dollar in 2 months, etc. etc. So Henry answer my simple question, why does legal immigration in one year to the US exceed the rest of the 126 nations of the world COMBINED, including France?

Let me enlighten those of you who have little or no knowledge of the coal industry. First lets look at Obama's "support" for clean coal. I spent 10 years during my career in the Southern Illinois coal fields while Obama was a state senator. I had to leave the state because the coal mines shut down. Obama did NOTHING to support the coal miners and is known to be anticoal in the coalfields. His rhetoric is purely self serving. As far as the UMWA supporting Obama, lets look at who this union leadership has endorsed in past elections, Al Gore, John Kerry, and in this years primary, John Edwards. These men are all greenies and very anti coal, but they are Democrats. The membership pays little or no attention to these self serving endorsements. If John L Lewis himself was running on the Republican ticket, the union leadership bufoons would not endorse him.
