Donating Organs Can Save Lives
The IntelligencerIt probably was painful for Jody and Gary Miller of Wheeling to take part in a special program earlier this month at Wheeling Park High School. It required them to relive in some ways the day when they lost their daughter.
The Millers' daughter, Heather, was 21 when she died about a year ago as a result of a car accident. At some point during her young life, she decided to become an organ donor. Her driver's license informed hospital workers of that. Her heart, liver and kidneys went to four people who needed them.
Her parents participated in a program at WPHS to provide information about organ donation. It was coordinated by CORE - the Center for Organ Recovery and Education.
Clearly, the Millers understand just how wonderful was the decision made by their daughter. We commend them for helping to spread the word about organ donations - and the importance of deciding to be a donor.
We also encourage area residents to consider making the commitment that Heather Miller did. Her thoughtfulness saved lives.
Information about organ donations can be obtained through the CORE Web site: www.core.org or by calling the center at 800-366-6777.
