MARSHALL COUNTY-Fire destroyed a two-story, wood frame home at the Langmyer Farm along Big Wheeling Creek late Saturday afternoon.
The home, reportedly constructed in about 1930 by neighbors, was occupied by Scott and Mel "Fawn" Langmyer. Scott Langmyer was in his side yard when the fire was discovered at about 4:45 p.m. His wife was at work.
The home is located about three miles out the creek south of the Ohio County line.
No one was injured in the blaze, however, a dog was believed to have been killed in the fire and another was injured and taken to a veterinarian.
Stone Church Volunteer Fire Chief Joe Hall said smoke and flames could be seen shooting from the house when fire crews arrived.
"The house was fully involved when we arrived," he said.
Hall said preliminary indications point to the kitchen area as the place of origin of the fire. "There was no foul play, but the exact cause is not known."
According to Hall, Limestone Volunteer Fire Department got the first call and were first on the scene. Marshall County dispatch then called Ohio County departments for mutual aid because Big Wheeling Creek Volunteer Fire Department is no longer answering calls.
Hall said there was concern because of a full tank of heating fuel oil in the basement. He reported the fire under control in about one hour. Heavy smoke filled the air while firefighters battled the blaze.
In addition to Limestone and Stone Church, Mozart, Dallas and Mt. Olivet fire units responded to the call.

too bad the Wheeling Creek VFD was dismantled. That would have been their one call for the year. Sorry to hear about the Langmeyer farm.
