Those looking for a quality bottle of wine at a reasonable price may want to check out the recently opened Casa di Vino in Wheeling's Centre Market.
With more than 200 varieties of wine priced from $10 and up, shop owners Greg and Diane Myers of Bellaire want to attract a wide range of customers to their shop at 2261 Market St.
"We think we have a good selection to meet many different tastes," said Greg Myers, noting the shop has been open since late August. "With the way the economy is right now, I think a lot of people are looking for a good bottle of wine at a reasonable price."
Greg Myers said he has always wanted to open his own business - and after he was laid off by Severstal in May, he and Diane decided to go for it.
"At first, we were looking to go to The Highlands, but the rent was a little too much for us. Then we tried to get things going in Ohio, but found out it was much easier to get permits over here," he said.
Both Greg and Diane Myers said they immediately knew they were in the right place upon checking out the Centre Market location, though Greg was initially concerned about parking issues.
"We are right here across the street from Coleman's Fish Market, and everyone knows where that is," he said. "We feel we've got the perfect location for our business here in Centre Market."
In addition to the wine, Casa di Vino (Italian for "House of Wine") offers equipment for making wine and beer, jewelry, purses, break-resistant glassware and custom made gift baskets.
"Business has been OK so far. Thursday, Friday and Saturday seem to be the best days," said Greg Myers.
"We have had a great response, so far," Diane Myers added.
Hours of operation at Casa di Vino are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday-Saturday. Wine tasting is also offered, with a special "after hours" wine tasting set for 6-8 p.m. Nov. 12.
