Somali Pirates Likely To Increase Assaults
News-RegisterAs we have pointed out previously, pirates based in Somalia remind us of an earlier group of freebooters, the Barbary Pirates of the late 18th and early 19th centuries. The parallels grow greater with each success of the Somali pirates - and each failure of the great powers, including the United States, to deal with them.
On Tuesday, Somali pirates freed 36 members of the crew of a Spanish trawler - after being paid $3.3 million in ransom for them. Beyond any doubt, that will encourage other pirate crews to take hostages.
Though there have been some successes against the pirates, such as the rescue of a U.S. ship captain earlier this year, virtually nothing has been done to eliminate the menace.
A similar situation occurred with the Barbary Pirates - until fed-up Americans launched an assault against their bases. "Millions for defense, not one cent for tribute" was the cry then.
But now, most nations seem too fearful of a confrontation with the pirates to assault their bases. That has encouraged them in their brutality. Lack of action against them needs to change, or they will step up their assaults on ships, including those owned and crewed by Americans.

Oprah Winfrey's alma mater, by the way. All of which is as irrelevant to the discussion as your replay of a guy who claims he was "misunderestimated".

Moving these trial into US civilian court is foolish, dangerous and unnecessary. The facts of the matter are obvious. The whole "discovery process" undermines our intelligence community. Holding the trial in the most densely populated city in the nation and making it a target is an obvious danger. Making public statements about the outcome of the trial in a foreign country is stupid. It wouldn't make any difference who did this stuff, it would still be stupid. One president told us that islam is a "religion of peace". That was stupid and I for one didn't hesitate say so at the time.

I am, here and now, demanding the resignation of AG Eric Holder and the impeachment of Barry Hussein Sotero. Trying terrorists in federal court in New York? Allowing defense lawyers to subpoena interrogators, sources, methods and allies? How can you get a conviction if you have to admit that you didn't Mirandize suspects and that you roughed them up a bit? Piracy is a capital crime under international law. Give the vessels a "heave to" order to stop and be boarded and one "shot across the bow". If they fail to comply sink it. Survivors are on their own.

Western intelligence communities know exactly who the players are in this and we know where they live. We know the Somali towns where they meet to receive and split up the ransoms. We know who needs to be killed, we know where they live. We know which towns need to be obliterated for their involvement in this. But nobody has the balls to do it.
