Fill Bellaire School Panel Vacancy
The IntelligencerMembers of the newly formed Financial Planning and Supervision Commission of the Bellaire Local School District held their first meeting Wednesday - but not at full strength.
The commission, formed by state mandate to deal with the district's projected $2.4 million deficit, is supposed to consist of five members. Two are state representatives, while three others are required to be residents of the district.
One of those three is supposed to be a business person appointed by Gov. Ted Strickland. By Wednesday, the governor had not yet made an appointment.
We urge him to do so quickly. The panel has just four months to complete a very difficult task. It will need all the help it can get.
Obviously, the governor cannot simply pick a name out of the telephone book. Finding a responsible person willing to serve may be a challenge. Again, however, we urge Strickland to make the matter a priority and appoint the panel's fifth member soon.

Bellaire cannot fill vacancy or solve deficit problems because a much larger problem exists for Bellaire. Their football program is in turmoil, two coaches, maybe no coaches, and you know that comes first and foremost in the All-American city. They may not even have a school system in the upcoming years, but they will still have football. Its like a real live comic strip over there.
