Senate President Jeff Kessler on Friday appointed three Northern Panhandle senators to serve as chairmen of state committees in the upcoming legislative session.
Kessler, D-Marshall, tasked Sen. Orphy Klempa, D-Ohio, to head the Interstate Cooperation committee; Sen. Larry Edgell, D-Wetzel, to lead Confirmations; and Sen. Jack Yost, D-Brooke, to head the Labor committee.
Also receiving committee chair assignments are Sens. Walt Helmick, D-Pocahontas, Agriculture; Joseph Minard, D-Harrison, Banking & Insurance; Richard Browning, D-Wyoming, Economic Development; Douglas Facemire, D-Braxton, Energy, Industry & Mining; Ronald Miller, D-Greenbrier, Enrolled Bills; Erik Wells, D-Kanawha, Military; William Laird, D-Fayette, Natural Resources; Dan Foster, D-Kanawha, Pensions; and Robert Beach, D-Monongalia, Transportation & Infrastructure.
Vice-chairmen are Sens. Bob Williams, D-Taylor, Agriculture; Mark Wills, D-Mercer, Banking & Insurance; Truman Chafin, D-Mingo, Confirmations; Klempa, Economic Development; Wells, Education; Art Kirkendoll, D-Logan, Energy, Industry & Mining; Evan Jenkins, D-Cabell, Enrolled Bills; Facemire, Finance; Miller, Government Organization; Laird, Health & Human Resources; Gregory Tucker, D-Nicholas, of Interstate Cooperation; Wills, Judiciary; Miller, Labor; Yost, Military; John Pat Fanning, D-McDowell, Natural Resources; Edgell, Pensions; and Klempa, Transportation & Infrastructure.
