Joe Yoder came all the way from Fredricksburg, Ohio, to showcase his custom cabinets Friday during the Wheeling Area Chamber of Commerce Home and Garden Show at WesBanco Arena.

Yoder joined about 100 other vendors offering everything from outdoor waterfalls to dog sitting services at the show. As a first-time participant, Yoder seemed fairly optimistic about gaining some business from the event.

The show continues from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. today, and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.

"We've gotten very positive feedback so far," he said, noting his business is based in Wayne County, Ohio, in the north-central part of the state. Yoder said Chamber President Terry Sterling encouraged him to attend the event.

Bob Smith, owner of Wheeling's Engineered Foundation Solutions, also enjoyed the show, along with his father, Bob Smith Sr. and mother, Pat Smith, who work in their son's store.

"We sometimes meet people we've done work for in the past," said Pat Smith. "It's nice to catch up with them again."

Judy Creamer, a workshop specialist at the Jeffco Workshop in Steubenville, said the shop gains good business contacts at the Wheeling event each year. She said those with "special needs" learn to build, sand and paint furniture at the shop.

"It's a very successful program," Creamer added of Jeffco, noting the show allows them the chance to increase public awareness of the work those at the shop do.

Bart Lehman, owner of Powhatan Point-based Lehman's Landscaping and Concrete, said his company enjoys the show each year, as he and his employees strive to build more outdoor waterfalls and other landscaping features.

The Play N Stay Pet Camp, which specializes in dog boarding and grooming at its St. Clairsville office, also had a booth at the show. The company plans to open a second shop in the Elm Grove section of Wheeling next month.

Also among the many vendors at the show is sponsor DeNoon Lumber Co., as well as Wheeling-based Panhandle Cleaning & Restoration.
