Flight Wins Chamber Education Scholarship

The 2012 Wheeling Area Chamber of Commerce and Williams Lea $1,000 Education Scholarship has been awarded to Cecily Flight, daughter of Douglas Flight of Wheeling.

The Chamber's Education Committee and Williams Lea will present the scholarship on April 27 at the Partners in Education Luncheon at West Virginia Northern Community College. Flight, a graduating senior at Wheeling Park High School, plans to attend West Virginia University this fall majoring in International Studies.

Guidelines for the Chamber Scholarship require that the recipient be a graduating senior from one of the three local Chamber members: Wheeling Park High School, Wheeling Central Catholic High School and The Linsly School, and attend one of the Chamber Member-Investor higher education institutions: Bethany College, Belmont College, West Liberty University, West Virginia Northern Community College, West Virginia Business College, West Virginia University or Wheeling Jesuit University.

The recipient must maintain a 2.5 or better GPA, demonstrate service to the community, and be significantly involved in leadership and community activities.

In addition, a 500-word essay based on the student's community service commitment, and experience gained from the experience is required.
