DOWNING, Joshua James, 33, of Wheeling, W.Va., passed away at his home, surrounded by his loving family, on Wednesday, May 16, 2012, after a long and courageous battle with Sanfilippo Syndrome.
A child of God, Joshua was born March 22, 1979 in Wheeling, a son of the late James W. Downing and Susan (Reger) Downing of Wheeling. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Casper and Katherine Nicholson Reger; paternal grandfather, Darrell Downing; uncle, Ronnie; and aunts, Charlotte and Patty.
In addition to his loving mother, Joshua is survived by his paternal grandmother, Edith Downing of Wheeling; two brothers, James William Downing II and his wife, Leslie and Jason Darrell Casper Downing, all of Wheeling; a nephew, Jesse Downing; a niece, McKayla Downing; six aunts, Blanche, Virginia, Cassi, Lillian, Karen and Freda; four uncles, Larry, Joe, Tom and John; many cousins; and special caregivers, Diane, Nancy, Jackie and Sylvia.
Friends will be received from 2-9 p.m. Friday at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 1400 Eoff Street, Wheeling, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 19, 2012, with the Rev. Robert Romick officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Wheeling.
