VARGO, Ernest Eugene Sr., 84, of St. Clairsville, OH, died on Friday, June 1, 2012, comforted by his four children.
He was born on December 10, 1927, in Plum Run, OH, the son of the late Joseph and Mary Kato Vargo, who were Hungarian immigrants.
Ernest was a graduate of the former Smithfield High School in Smithfield, OH. He later attended Medical Field Services School in Fort Sam Houston, TX, in preparation for his service as a medical technician in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He was a retired butcher from Suter's IGA in Shadyside, OH, and also worked for several years at The Grove Restaurant in Morristown, OH, and most recently Abbey's Restaurant on Wheeling Island. He greatly enjoyed his children, grandchildren, and friends, and drew strong satisfaction from his years of work.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Minnie Shia Vargo, and two brothers, Joseph and Edward Vargo.
Surviving are his four children, Dianna Mary Vargo of Wheeling, Ernest Eugene Vargo Jr., and his wife, Trisha, of Cleveland, OH, Leslie Vargo Lancia and her husband, Giuseppe, of Wintersville, OH, and Anthony Shia Vargo and his wife, Carmelina, of Pittsburgh, PA; nine grandchildren, Shia Lenore, Ernest Eugene III, and Jesse Li Vargo; Giuseppe Guirino and Massimo Guirino Lancia; Vincenzia Shia, Anthony Ernest, Armando Carmelo, and Vitaliana Maria Vargo; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends received on Sunday, June 3, 2012, from 1-6 p.m. at Kepner Funeral Home, 900 National Road, Wheeling (304-232-2732), where services will be held on Monday, June 4, 2012, at 10 a.m. with Monsignor Bakhos officiating. Interment in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Wheeling, where the West Alexander American Legion will conduct military graveside services.
