STEUBENVILLE - A 49-year-old priest from Rochester, Mich., has been named the next bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Steubenville.
Pope Benedict XVI has appointed Marc Jeffrey Monforton to fill the vacancy created one year ago when Bishop R. Daniel Conlon was appointed bishop of the Joliet, Ill., diocese. Monforton currently serves as pastor of the St. Andrew Catholic parish in Rochester.
The new bishop was ordained a priest for the Detroit Archdiocese in 1994 and has served as in various capacities for the archdiocese. Monforton recently served six years as rector of the Sacred Heart Seminary in Michigan.
