The Corporation for Ohio Appalachian Development is looking for foster grandparents and senior companions throughout the region.
Residents of Belmont, Harrison and Jefferson counties who are ages 55 and older are encouraged to apply, according to Kirk Guisti, Area 1 coordinator.
Members of both programs receive a stipend and travel reimbursements.
"With the economy, volunteers have been needed more as much now for financial reasons just as much for personal gain," Guisti said. "The cost of living has gone up, vehicle insurance, personal health care and property taxes but the pensions haven't been going up to match.
"This is almost like a second job for some of our volunteers."
Guisti is especially looking for foster grandparents to work at Union Local Elementary School in Morristown.
Senior companions help adults with their daily living needs.
If interested, call 330-987-7232 or 740-942-8886, ext. 205 or email kguisti@coadinc.org.
